Has the Recent Rash of Riverhead Crimes Frightened You?

What do you think can be done to stop the problem?

Another armed robbery took place in a Riverhead apartment over the weekend during a home invasion, marking the latest in a string of crimes that have taken place in town.

First, a series of armed robberies took place in stores around Riverhead, including Barth's on East Main Street. Next, a woman was a couple was held up at knifepoint after leaving the aquarium, and a woman was carjacked on Sound Avenue last week.

In response, Riverhead Town Supervisor Sean Walter has vowed to tackle the problem and amp up police protection downtown, doubling patrols.

But, has the recent series of crimes left you frightened? Do you take extra precautions now that you didn't before? What do you think can be done long-term to address rising crime? Tell us what you think, in the comments section.

I KNOW, I KNOW!! Let's make a law banning all firearms, and DISARM all the people! OR, maybe we can just JAIL EVERYBODY! In JAIL, no one has access those evil guns (or drugs, or booze), and EVERYONE is SAFE!! There are PLENTY of ways to reduce crime. What you DO NOT want to do, however, under ANY circumstances, is what every single other nation on Earth does - POLICE THEIR BORDERS!!!

All able body citizens should arm themselves with non-lethal but very powerful 'intermediate' weapons. The 'tazer' type device commonly used by many police officers and/or full-strength 'pepper spray' canister works very well when properly trained in their use. You may need to be specially licensed with a good reason to be so armed, Citing the overwhelming frequency of 'armed crimes' in your neighborhood and surrounding area might help. Hiring the number of additional police needed to handle such rampart crime increase will also work , however. the cost of this will break your bank accounts. Then.........Not only will you not have aqny money for your needs but, the criminals will also know this.......and not even bother robbing you.
