3-Year-Old Injured in Head-On Jamesport Crash

One driver airlifted to Stony Brook University Medical Center.

A three-year-old child and two others were injured on Saturday morning during a head-on crash in Jamesport.

According to Riverhead Town Police, the accident occurred at approximately 9:49 a.m. when a 2007 Dodge pickup allegedly driven by Jamesport resident John Cain, 72, that was traveling northbound crossed into the southbound lane and collided head-on with a 2011 Subaru Forrestor driven by Rebecca Giles, 36, of Baiting Hollow, who had a three-year-old girl in her vehicle.

Cain was airlifted to Stony Brook University Medical Center by the Suffolk County Aviation Unit; Giles and the child were transported by Riverhead Ambulance to Peconic Bay Medical Center.

The Jamesport Fire Department responded to the scene. Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks.

An investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about the accident is asked to call Riverhead Town Police at 631-727-4500 ext. 328.
