Alleged Counterfeiters Sought in Wal-Mart Vacuum Thefts

Anybody with information on the incident is asked to call Suffolk County police.

Riverhead and Suffolk County Police are seeking subjects who allegedly used counterfeit bills to purchase items at a Wal-Mart in Riverhead, only to return the items at another Wal-Mart for legitimate cash.

Police say on Dec. 15, 2010, a man used five counterfeit $100 bills to purchase a Dyson vacuum valued near $500. Later that day, another man - after first trying to use an invalid credit card - also reportedly used five counterfeit bills to purchase yet another Dyson vacuum valued at $433.

Both vacuums were returned to a Wal-Mart in Commack for cash.

Anyone with information on the subjects or incident is asked to call 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be confidential, and information which leads to an arrest may offer a cash reward of up to $5,000.
