UPDATED: Ex-Con Arrested in Bank Robbery Case

According to police and court records, a Bethpage man robbed Bridgehampton National Bank on Feb. 16 and five days later, committed a burglary in Nassau County.

Riverhead Police arrested an ex-convict and parole violator, who was already facing new charges of burglary and petit larceny, for reportedly robbing a Wading River bank nearly a month ago.

Robert Fornal, 41, of Bethpage, is charged with robbery in the third degree, and according to police was arraigned in Riverhead Justice Court. He is due back in court on Thursday.

Police reported that in Wading River and subsequently fled the scene of the crime.

Court records indicate that just five days after the robbery, on Feb. 21, Fornal was charged with burglary and petit larceny in the Nassau County Court system. 

According to Det. Sgt. Joseph Loggia of the , Fornal was considered a suspect and after Nassau County Police brought the man to Riverhead, he was charged with burglary on Monday.

"We were provided with some leads that led us to him," said Loggia, who said he couldn't provide more specifics because the case is open at the moment. "Unfortunately, Nassau caught him before we did."

Records with the State Department of Corrections show that Fornal served time in the Queensboro Correctional Facility for criminal possession of stolen property in the third degree and attempted assault in the second degree, and was released in May of 2010.
