Bring Your Own Cooler: Sheriff Offers Free Ice

To keep food and medications from spoiling, residents can pick up a cooler full of ice Thursday and Friday at two locations in Suffolk.

Rather than standing outside in the cool weather and grilling or letting meat in a freezer without power go bad, locals may be able to get their hands on some ice to save their frozen foods for a brighter day.

The Suffolk County Sheriff's Office announced on Thursday that it would be giving away ice on Thursday and Friday on a first-come, first-serve basis in two locations throughout the county.

On Thursday until 5 p.m., and from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Friday residents are permitted one cooler full of ice per car at the Suffolk County Correctional Facility on Route 24 in Riverside, and the Suffolk County Minimum Security Facility on Yaphank Avenue in Yaphank.
