Calverton Car Crash Sends Mom, Son To Hospital

Police say driver struck a telephone pole and several trees.

A Calverton car accident sent a mother and her son to the hospital on Saturday night with non-life-threatening injuries.

Riverhead Town police report that on Saturday at approximately 9:25 p.m., Sound Beach resident Concetta Glavin, 49, was driving a 2003 Jeep eastbound on Route 25 in Calverton when the vehicle left the roadway, striking a telephone and several trees.

Glavin was extricated from the vehicle by the Riverhead Fire Department and flown by helicopter to Stony Brook University Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Her son, Brian Glavin, 18, was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment of minor injures.

Police say no charges were filed after the accident; rain is considered to have been a factor in the crash.

Traffic was rerouted after the accident; a portion of Route 25 was closed to allow for the helicopter to land.
