Calverton Woman in ICU Following Tuesday Night Car Accident

Son says he's unsure if she will survive.

A Calverton woman remains in intensive care after she was airlifted following a two-vehicle car crash in Calverton on Tuesday night. 

Eileen Nesbitt was pulling out of Citgo Gas Station on Route 25 in Calverton when she was t-boned by an oncoming vehicle, according to her son, James. Police and members of the Wading River Fire Department blocked off Route 25 from the public, from Fresh Pond Avenue to Edwards Avenue.

Police reports state that Nesbitt was airlifted to Stony Brook University Medical Center last night following the accident. Robert Gallant, according to reports, was driving the other vehicle, and was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center by Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps. According to PBMC, Gallant has been released from the emergency room.

"She's not OK," said Nesbitt's son. "At first, she was alert and oriented when she was brought down there. They knew she had a broken hand and a fractured pelvis. But today, they found more fractures. She's having trouble breathing because of cracked ribs."

He said he was unsure what caused the crash, as police handling the case have yet to arrive back to work following last night's shift. A police report on the accident was not yet available to the public as of Wednesday afternoon.

He was also unsure if his mother will survive the accident. 

"At this point, we don't know if she'll make it."
