Celebrating Riverhead's Firefighting Families

Generations of Riverhead families have put their lives on the lives to protect others.

Selfless dedication to saving the lives of others is a common thread that tightly binds generations of families who have served for decades as volunteers in the Riverhead Fire Department.

This week, Riverhead Patch will kick off a new series highlighting the grandfathers and fathers, sons and brothers, mothers and cousins, friends and grandsons who are deeply bonded in the precious brotherhood that has defined their lives for generations.

The stories Patch publishes will give firefighters a voice and let them tell readers the reasons why they've chosen to serve, including dedication, passion, love -- and a deeply rooted tradition of public service that has given birth to generations of heroes.

Do you serve in the Riverhead Fire Department? Did your father, and grandfather, serve before you? Why is the legacy so precious to families -- and Riverhead Town? Share your thoughts with Patch -- and stay tuned as new stories in the series unfold.

Lisa - is there any way to post on the main page? That would be a big help. Thank you.
