Cops: 7 Netted In New Year's Eve DWI Bust

Checkpoints were set up at three Riverhead locations.

Seven people spent New Year's Eve behind bars after being nabbed at DWI checkpoints in Riverhead.

Riverhead Police, in conjunction with the East End DWI Task Force, conducted a series of Stop DWI checkpoints and patrol details around Riverhead on New Year's Eve between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m.

The checkpoints were set up on Sound Avenue near West Lane, Route 25 east on Washington Avenue, and Peconic Avenue near West Main Street, police said.

Seven arrests were made; five for driving while intoxicated charges and two for possession of a controlled substance and/or marijuana.

Police arrested Hesquan K. Black, 21, of Cutchogue; he was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a misdemeanor, and possession of marijuana, a violation. 

Matthew P. Stoeher, 40, of Jamesport, was arrested and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor.

A Flanders man, 21, was charged with driving while ability impaired by alcohol, a violation.

Anthony F. Mangual, 35, of Deer Park, was charged with DWI, a misdemeanor.

Alexander G. Scialpi, 42, of Port Jefferson, was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a misdemeanor, as well as possession of marijuana, a violation.

Amanda Hurrinus, 19, of Wading River, was charged with DWI, a misdemeanor.

A Cutchogue woman, 29, was charged with driving while ability impaired by alcohol, a violation.
