Cops: 8 Nabbed in DWI Sting

Eight were busted at DWI checkpoints around Riverhead Saturday night, police said.

Eight were charged Saturday night in Riverhead after Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota's East End DWI Task Force cast its net to catch drunk drivers.

The task force, which was comprised of police officers from Riverhead, Southold, New York State, Suffolk County Parks, and Shelter Island, arrested eight individuals, who were charged with a total of 6 DWIs; one motorist was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs, and another, while driving while ability impaired by alcohol.

Charged with misdemeanor DWI, police said, were Michael Rosati, 52, of Aquebogue, Grant Sendlewski, 25, of Calverton, Fernando Rosas, 26, of East Hampton,  Ochoa Marroquin, 33, of Center Moriches, Lucino Ramos, 42, of Riverhead, and Michael Romanoff, 46, of New York City. 

In addition, police said, Margaret Hartmann, 29, of Smithtown, was charged with driving while ability impaired by alcohol, a violation. Shaunice Strand, 22, of Center Moriches, was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs, a misdemeanor, police said.

The checkpoints were set up on Route 105 and in other Riverhead locations, police said, and are expected to continue throughout the summer.
