Aquebogue Man Charged in Fatal Crash

A crash on Meadowbrook Parkway early Monday afternoon shut the road down for six hours.

An Aquebogue man stands charged with reckless driving and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, both misdemeanors, after New York State Police say he was involved in an accident early Monday afternoon that killed two Nassau County men.

The accident occurred shortly after 12:30 p.m. on the Meadowbrook Parkway, shutting down the busy roadway for over six hours as police conducted investigations.

According to police, 50-year-old Robert Beodeker was driving a GMC pick-up southbound, near the Southern State Parkway, when he struck a disabled Nissan Maxima which had become disabled and stopped in hazard markings.

According to a report on CBS New York, the accident occurred at a point on the Meadowbrook Parkway where the roadway merges from three lanes to two.

Both 76-year-old John Elder, of Freeport, and Edward Ross, 65, of North Bellmore, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Boedeker is president of the North Fork Community Theatre in Mattituck and Campus Associate Dean for Student Services at Suffolk County Community College's eastern campus.

Police are still investigating the incident.
