Cops Arrest Fleeing Suspect in Riverside

Riverhead man charged with driving while impaired by drugs and fleeing the police

Southampton police report the arrest early Saturday morning of Carl A. Ligon, 33-years-old of Riverhead, for driving while impaired with drugs and fleeing an officer attempting to make an arrest.

Police report that at about 12:49 a.m., Ligon was observed driving south on CR 104 in the hamlet of Riverside without using his headlights. An officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop, when Ligon drove away recklessly, refusing to comply with the emergency lights and sirens.

Ligon stopped after a short pursuit and then attempted to flee on foot. Ligon, who had been alone in the vehicle, was apprehended with the assistance of the New York State Police a short distance from his car.

During the investigation, Ligon was found to be under the influence of drugs and was transported to the Southampton Town Police Headquarters for processing and held for arraignment.

Charges include driving while impaired by drugs, reckless driving, criminal possession of a controlled substance and unlawfully fleeing the police.
