Cops: Burglar Caught Red-Handed At Riverhead Gas Station During Blizzard

The man was held on $10,000 bail, police said.

A burglar was caught with his tools after trying to steal from a Riverhead gas station, police said.

According to Riverhead Town police, officers responded to an alarm at 3:39 a.m. Friday at the Gulf station on East Main Street.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a rear door forced open and a broken west side window, police said. Further investigation revealed a man hiding in a rear shed, where the door had also been forced open, police said.

Jeffrey D. Pittman, 43, of Flanders was arrested and charged with burglary in the third degree, a felony, and possession of burglar's tools. He was processed and arraigned in Riverhead Justice Court, then remanded to the Suffolk County Correctional Facility in lieu of $10,000 bail, police said.
