Cops: Calverton Man Gave Fake I.D., Found With Drugs

Southampton police arrested Calverton man after giving false name and holding crack cocaine, PCP, and hydrocodone.

A Calverton man was arrested by Southampton Police on Wednesday morning after giving a false name to police, and was later found to be in possession of several illegal drugs.

Joe L. Coffey, 48, was reportedly pulled over near the intersection of Old Quogue Road and Route 24 in Riverside just before noon on Wednesday for not wearing a seatbelt. 

After Coffey allegedly identified himself as another subject to police, an investigation revealed his true identity, also revealing that Coffey was driving with a suspended license.

According to police, a subsequent investigation revealed that Coffey was in possession of crack cocaine, hydrocodone, and PCP. 

He was arrested on the following charges: criminal impersonation in the second degree, a misdemeanor; criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third and fifth degrees, both felonies; three counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, misdemeanors; and aggravated operation of a motor vehicle in the second degree, a misdemeanor. He also received traffic violations for driving without a seatbelt and driving as an unlicensed operator.

Coffey was transported to police headquarters for processing and held overnight for a morning arraignment.
