Cops: Couple Robbed At Knifepoint After Leaving Aquarium

Suspect demanded wallets and cell phones, police said.

A couple leaving the Long Island Aquarium & Exhibition Center was robbed at knifepoint on Saturday afternoon, police said.

According to Riverhead Police, the robbery took place at 4:11 p.m. near the Long Island Aquarium & Exhibition Center parking lot on Ostrander Avenue.

The couple reported being robbed at knifepoint by a man who approached them on a bicycle as they walked from the aquarium north to the parking lot.ย

According to the couple, they heard a voice from behind them state, "Get out of the way," police said.

As the couple moved, the male allegedly said, "Stop right here. Give me your wallets."

When the couple hesitated, the police said the man on the bicycle pull out a short, wide knife and pointed it toward them.

After taking two wallets and cell phones, the alleged thief then rode off, heading southbound on Ostrander Avenue, police said.ย 

Police described the robber as a black male wearing a puffy brown or black jacket, with the hood up, on a bicycle. No other description was immediately available. Anyone with information on the crime is asked to call the Riverhead Police at 631-727-4500.
