Cops: Dispute Over Heat Money Turns Violent

Also, a CD Player is stolen from a car stored at Precision Collision in Flanders.

The following incidents were reported by the Town of Southampton Police Department for the week of Jan. 27.

Flanders

  • Someone smashed in the drivers side window of a vehicle parked on Fanning Avenue on Jan. 23. According to police they received a 911 call at around 5 p.m. from a 30-year-old man who reported the damage to his 2003 Nissan. Police are investigating the crime as a criminal mischief case.
  • Police were called to a house on Flanders Boulevard on Jan. 20 after a dispute between temporary housemates turned physical. According to police a 47-year-old woman had been allowing another female tenant to live with her for the past two weeks and had asked for an undisclosed amount of money to pay for a recent heating oil delivery. According to police the tenant refused to pay and was subsequently asked to leave. During that confrontation, police said the tenant shoved the complainant to the kitchen floor. The victim wished to only document the incident, which is still open pending further charges from the victim.

Riverside

  • A Riverleigh Avenue man said someone walked up to his house and smashed the front window to his living room on Jan. 26. According to police the man called 911 at around 6:30 p.m. to report the damage. The vandal reportedly walked up to the house on foot and broke the window using an unknown object. The 50-year-old homeowner said he then saw the suspect flee east on Riverleigh Avenue on foot. Police are still investigating the crime. The broken window was valued at around $200.
  • Someone stole a CD player out of a vehicle that was parked in a business parking lot on Jan. 23. According to police they received a call at around 4:40 p.m. reporting that an unknown subject had scaled the fence of Riverhead Precision Collision on Flanders Road and rummaged through an unlocked 1999 Ford pickup truck. The thief made off with an AM/FM CD Player from the vehicle, valued at around $120. Police have no suspects or leads at this time.
