Cops: Homeless Man Caught After Stealing Pickup In Riverhead

The man was charged with a felony, police said.

A homeless man who allegedly stole a pickup truck from outside a deli in Riverhead is behind bars, police said.

According to Riverhead Town police, on Dec. 28, a pickup truck was reported stolen from outside the Express Deli on Osborne Avenue.

After an investigation, the vehicle, a 2000 Ford F-250, was recovered at a Riverhead business on Hubbard Avenue, according to police. 

Further investigation led to the arrest on Monday of Monwell A. Wright, 20, police said. Police said Wright was located on West Main Street for an unrelated incident, taken into custody, and charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the third degree, a felony.

Wright was arraigned in Riverhead Town justice court and remanded to the Suffolk County Correctional facility in lieu of bail.
