This is incredibly sad and frightening. It's going to get worse, and I just wish we, as a community, got to know each other better. Get out and introduce yourself to the neighbors, start neighborhood watch communities and build an organic, non-state administrated "social safety net." Why was this woman arrested? Why not far rather direct her to a homeless shelter, buy her something to eat, remind her that all is not lost, that there is still hope? Why add to society's burden by jailing her and using up scant state resources?
Pray for this woman, and pray for the nation.

Aren't there any social workers at the hospital that could have helped and guided her?

The minute your homeless (especially in the winter), you are without shelter and warmth. There is absolutely no place to go. You're basically done, unless you can wait it out a couple of days, that's why you must break the law, because the cops will give you shelter and food. They must, it's the law. Great society we have, eh? Born in the USA, I was born in the USA. Oh beautiful, for spacious sky's, of amber waves of grain, for purple mountain majesties, Above the fruited plain! America! America! Where are you now?
