UPDATE: Jamesport Man, 90, Dies After Riverhead Crash Saturday

Police have identified the man who lost his life.

Update: 5:48 p.m.: A Jamesport man died after a tragic two-car accident in Riverhead Saturday.

According to Riverhead Town Police, one man died after a two-car accident that occurred at the intersection of Route 25 and Doctors Path on Saturday at 11:41 a.m.

A westbound 1995 Dodge Ram driven by Matthew Romanelli, 23, of Greenport, hit the passenger side of a 1998 Ford sedan operate by Caroline Ziemacki, 86, of Jamesport, police said.

Mrs. Ziemacki had been eastbound on Route 25 and was attempting a left turn to head north on Doctors Path when the accident occurred, authorities said.

Her husband, John Ziemacki, 90, of Jamesport, was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Mrs. Ziemacki was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment; Romanelli was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center where he was treated and released.

Police were assisted at the scene by the Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps, the Riverhead Fire Department, the Suffolk County Police Aviation Unit, and the Suffolk County Medical Examiner's office.

No charges have been filed at the present time; the investigation is ongoing, police said.

Both vehicles were impounded for a safety inspection. Anyone with information about the accident has been asked to call the Riverhead Police Department's detective division.

Original story:A two-car accident on East Main Street and Doctor's Path in Riverhead has resulted in injuries, police said Saturday.

According to Riverhead police, a two car accident that occurred on Saturday at 11:41 at the location resulted in two individuals being trapped in their vehicles.

The individuals, police said, have been extricated from their vehicles; injuries have been reported but the extent of those injuries is not immediately clear.
