UPDATE: 7:11 a.m. One man has died after a tragic two-car accident on Friday night on Sound Avenue in Riverhead.
Police said responding units found 2006 Mazda 4dsd that had been struck by a 2005 Kia Suburban heading westbound.
Riverhead Town Police police said Riverhead resident John Scorzelli Jr., 46, the driver of the Mazda, was treated at the scene and transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center, where, despite efforts made, he was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival due to extensive injuries received in the accident.
The driver of the Kia, who police identified as Lia Fallon, 43, of Port Jefferson, was treated at the scene by Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance members and transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center for further treatment of minor, non-life-threatening injuries.
The accident took place at approximately 12:30 a.m., police say. No charges were filed.
According to witnesses and a preliminary report, the Mazda, which was heading eastbound, appears to have lost control around a curve and entered the westbound lane sideways, directly into the path of the Kia.
