UPDATE: Man Injured in Riverhead Shooting, Cops Search for Suspect

Riverhead police said they are looking for a Hispanic man who allegedly shot another man in the arm on West Main Street.

A man was injured in a shooting in downtown Riverhead late Friday night, according to Riverhead Town Police, and the suspect is still at large.

Police said the victim was shot in the arm around 10 p.m. near 55 West Main Street by an unknown Hispanic man. The suspect, described as wearing a red shirt, fled on foot in an unknown direction.

The victim was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center where he was treated for his wound. An update on his condition was not immediately available.

Conversations between dispatchers and patrol officers, overheard on a police scanner on Friday night, indicate police were searching for a blue late-model Maxima and a dark blue Cherokee. The suspect was said to have a silver semiautomatic weapon, possibly a 9mm pistol.

Riverhead police said the Detectives Division is still investigating the incident. Southampton Town police assisted the Riverhead police in the search.

Riverhead Police ask that anyone with information about the incident call the Detectives Division at 727-4500. All calls will be kept confidential, police said.
