Cops: Marijuana Bust Yields 57 Pot Plants On Sound Avenue

Additional charges could be levied, police said.

A Laurel man was charged with growing marijuana after 57 plants were confiscated at a Sound Avenue address in Riverhead on Tuesday, police said.

Riverhead Town police worked with the East End Drug Task Force to execute a search warrant at a property located between Horton Lane and Sound Avenue Tuesday afternoon following an ongoing investigation, police said.

Anton Van Der Wetering, 43, of Laurel — who runs the Van de Wetering Greenhouses in Jamesport owned by his father Peter Van Der Wetering — was arrested and charged with two counts of unlicensed growing of cannabis, a class A misdemeanor.

A box truck used to transport the plants was impounded and brought to the Riverhead Town impound.

Police said additional charges could be levied following the results of analysis and weight by the Suffolk County crime lab.
