Cops: Masked Robbers Force Way Into Home With Gun, Knife

Police are still searching for suspects.

Masked intruders forced their way into a woman's apartment and robbed her at gun and knifepoint Friday night, police said.

Riverhead police said that on 12:19 a.m. Friday night, officers responded to a call at an apartment on Doctors Path in Riverhead, in reference to a burglary that had just taken place.

According to police, the victim, a 22-year-old female, reported that just before midnight on Friday night, she heard a knock at the door. When she answered, two masked men forced their way into the apartment, police said.

The victim told police that one subject had a handgun and the other had a knife; the suspects allegedly demanded money and ransacked the apartment. The suspects are described as two black males wearing masks who made off with cash and clothing.

Police said the victim was able to escape and call the police. When police arrived, the suspects had already fled. A K-9 seach was conducted and a track was found that led police to believe that the suspects got into a waiting vehicle.

The investigation is ongoing; police believe the incident is related to illegal drug activity. 

The incident is the most recent in a rash of crimes reported in the Riverhead area over the past months. First, a string of occurred in the Riverhead area. The day after Christmas, a woman was tied up and robbed at Tanger; a couple was held up at knifepoint while leaving the aquarium on East Main Street recently and last week, a woman reported a carjacking on Sound Avenue.
