UPDATE: Cops, Courts Say Hit-and-Run Driver from East Hampton

Southampton Police said Tuesday that a Riverhead man was arrested Tuesday night after fleeing an accident in Sagaponack, but records show an East Hampton man was charged.

An East Hampton man is responsible for a hit-and-run on Montauk Highway Tuesday night, according to Southampton Police and Justice Court.

Police originally suspected a Riverhead man, but confirmed Wednesday morning that George Strobin, 43, was arrested Tuesday night. Justice Court confirmed, saying that Strobin is due back in court on April 11.

Police said the man was driving an SUV eastbound when he struck a sedan that a woman was driving westbound. The front corners of the cars collided and Strobin kept driving, according to police. Bridgehampton ambulance volunteers took the woman to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
