Cops: Riverhead Man Charged With Criminal Mischief

Police were in the process of giving the defendant a ride home, cops said.

A Riverhead man was arrested and charged with criminal mischief in Southold on Wednesday after police said he tried to break a part of the police car.

According to Southold Town police, Luke Shea, 22, of Riverhead, was involved in an altercation on Main Road in Southold at 4:05 p.m.

An officer was in the process of giving Shea a ride home, police said, when the defendant was allegedly observed breaking off a three-by-four piece of plastic that made up part of the prisoner partition wall in the patrol vehicle.

Shea was arrested and charged with criminal mischief in the fourth degree, a misdemeanor. He was transported to Southold Town police headquarters, processed, and later released on bail.
