Cops: Two Held Up By Masked Gunmen in Broad Daylight

The masked suspects stole two bags of cash, police said.

A man and woman were held up by two masked gunmen in broad daylight in Riverhead Wednesday, police said.

According to Riverhead Town police, a 911 call came in at 3:27 p.m.; the caller hung up without saying anything.

The enhanced 911 system identified the location of the call as a home on Maplewood Lane, police said.

Police responded to the residence and found a Riverhead man, 40, and a Bay Shore woman, 38, who said that they had just been robbed at gunpoint.

The two said that they had been walking to a car in the driveway when two masked men came up behind them and displayed a handgun, ordering them back into the home, police said.

Once inside the house, the suspects stole a bag containing cash from a bedroom closet, police said. The suspects then left the house and stole a bag containing cash from a vehicle in the driveway, police said.

A Riverhead Police Department K-9 unit searched the premises for the suspects, with no results.

Both the man and woman were "uncooperative" and said they did not wish to pursue the matter, police said.
