Cops: Suspect Caught Breaking In To Gas Station

A K-9 unit captured the suspect.

A suspect was nabbed on East Main Street in Riverhead early Wednesday while breaking into a gas station, police said.

According to Riverhead police, Sundiata Evans, 20, was arrested at 4:01 a.m. Wednesday after police got a call about a commercial burglar alarm going off at OK Petrol.

Officers and a K-9 unit headed to the scene, where the front door was seen damaged. An officer spotted the defendant, who tried to flee the building, inside. The K-9 unit apprehended Evans while still inside the building.

Evans was arrested at the scene and charged with burglary in the third degree, a felony, criminal mischief in the third degree, a felony, and resisting arrest, a misdemeanor.

He was taken to Riverhead police headquarters for to wait for arraignment.
