Crimes Nearby: Police Say Woman Wrote $13k in Fake Checks

The following information was supplied by East End police departments. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate a conviction.

Recent arrests and reported crimes from elsewhere on the East End:

NORTH FORK

Kenneth McKay, 49, of Southold, was arrested and charged with public lewdness and petit larceny on Friday at 11:40 a.m., after police responded to a call that McKay had exposed himself to employees and customers of Waldbaum's grocery store in Mattituck, police said.

Police said that Waldbaum's employees observed McKay concealing seven steaks worth a total of $80 under his shirt. When the employees stopped him as he attempted to leave the store, McKay removed the steaks, unzipped his pants and exposed himself, police said.

Phillip Wanat, 20, of Mattituck, was charged with driving while intoxicated and unlawful fleeing on Feb. 17 at 1:40 a.m., after police attempted to stop Wanat for a traffic violation on Bergen Avenue in Mattituck and Wanat attempted to flee from the scene, police said. Wanat reached a speed of 85 mph in a 35 mph zone on Bergen Avenue before he eventually turned into a private driveway and stopped, police said. Police said Wanat was found to be intoxicated, was arrested and transported to police headquarters in Peconic where he was held pending arraignment.

Evan Kaplan, 52, of Muttontown, was charged with DWI on Saturday at 7:56 p.m., after police observed him failing to maintain his lane while driving on Nassau Point Road in Cutchogue, police said. Kaplan was found to be intoxicated was arrested and transported to police headquarters in Peconic where he was held pending arraignment.

SOUTHAMPTON

Juan S. Flores-Aparicio, 21, of Southampton, was arrested Feb. 17 at 4:29 p.m. and charged with criminal possession of a forged instrument in the second degree, a felony, and petty larceny, a misdemeanor. Southampton Village police said they were called a complaint of a shoplifter at CVS, where Flores-Aparicio allegedly stole a bottle of Beverly Hills Polo Club Cologne. Police said he had a forged social security card on him. He was processed and released after posting $250 bail.

EAST HAMPTON

Kimberly L. Lojewski, 34, of Belchertown, Mass., was arrested after she refused to leave the Montauk Police Precinct on Feb. 12. She was reportedly observed kicking the side of the door at about 11:30 p.m., when police advised her to enter through the front door.

When she came in, she was unsteady on her feet and appeared intoxicated, according to police. She requested to stay at the precinct for the night, and was told she could not, though she was offered ride. She was asked to leave several times, but refused, so she was placed under arrest, police said.

A search revealed she was in possession of two pills that turned out to be Lorazepam and nine small green pills that were Clonazepam, both of which are controlled substances. Lojewski was charged with trespass, a violation, and two counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor.

Agatha A. Zorawski, 24, of Huntington, was arrested on an aggravated driving while intoxicated charge, a misdemeanor, and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation, after an accident in Wainscott on Saturday at about 2:40 p.m. Police came upon two vehicles stopped on Montauk Highway near Wainscott-Northwest Road. The driver of the Toyota said that he had been struck from behind by the Ford Mustang. Police said Zorawski was behind the wheel of the Mustang and she appeared drunk. Held for arraignment overnight, she was released on $300 bail.

WESTHAMPTON-HAMPTON BAYS

Anthony Mule, 21, of East Quogue, was arrested Feb. 19 at 4:25 a.m. in Hampton Bays and charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree and two counts of menacing in the second degree, all felonies. Police said Mule was near Momentos when they received reports that he was menacing two people with a .38 caliber handgun.

Robert M. Reyer, 27, of Hampton Bays, was arrested Feb. 18 at 5:20 a.m. at his home and charged with criminal mischief in the third degree, a felony. Police said Reyer was involved in a domestic incident in Hampton Bays with his ex-girlfriend and slashed her current boyfriend’s tires.

Debra Heyden, 55 of East Quogue was arrested on Feb. 15 and charged with two counts of grand larceny, four counts of possession of a forged instrument, and one count of grand larceny, all felonies. The charges, police say stem from the result of an August report in which police say Heyden allegedly cashed three checks, totaling $13,700, to an account that was not hers.
