Crimes Nearby: Burglary, DWI

The following information was supplied by various town police departments. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate guilt.

Miller Place-Rocky Point

John Edgar, II, 33, of Shirley was arrested Aug. 29 in Sound Beach and charged with second degree unlawful imprisonment. Reports indicate Edgar was arrested for the alleged refusal to let another male exit his vehicle. Reports indicate Edgar allegedly threatened the male with physical harm if he didn’t comply.   

Richard Kijowski, 51, of Farmingville was arrested Aug. 27 in Miller Place and charged with criminal mischief. Reports indicate Kijowski was arrested for the alleged theft of lawn furniture at approximately 2 a.m. It was unclear if the furniture was stolen from a business or a residency.   

Gregory Harvey, 55, of Hempstead was arrested Aug. 27 in Rocky Point and charged with fourth degree grand larceny. Reports indicate Harvey was arrested for the alleged theft of assorted merchandise from Waldbaums.  

Westhampton-Hampton Bays

Someone forced their way into a home on Summit Boulevard in Westhampton by breaking through a screen on September 2 between 4:30 p.m. and 9:15 p.m., police said.

The 70-year-old homeowner, a retired chef, told police the burglar went through four bedrooms, throwing clothing on the floor and stealing cash, jewelry and collectors’ coins. The chef reported stolen $450 cash, $5,000 in collectors’ coins, two diamonds rings valued together at $10,000, a $1,050 jade bracelet, and a $1,500 jade ring.

David Link, 31, of Hampton Bays was arrested Tuesday at 12:45 a.m. on the corner of Montauk Highway East and Canoe Place Road in Hampton Bays and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor. Police said they stopped Link when they saw that he had not used his turn signal and then discovered he was intoxicated.

Milos Stojanovic, 22, of Astoria was arrested Monday at 9:08 p.m. at the corner of Good Ground and Springville roads in Hampton Bays and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor. Stojanovic was stopped for not using his blinker, police said.

Michael Durnin, 22, of Brooklyn was arrested Monday at 8:39 p.m. at the corner of Old Country Road and Summit Boulevard in Westhampton and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor. Police said Durnin was stopped for driving out of lane when they discovered he was intoxicated.

Matthew Guzowski, 20, of East Meadow was arrested by Quogue Village Police Saturday at 2:05 a.m. on Montauk Highway in Quogue and charged with second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, a felony, driving while ability impaired by drugs, a misdemeanor and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation. Police stopped Guzowski because he illegally passed another car, and then discovered he had a fraudulent Rhode Island’s driver’s licens

North Fork 

Juan Jose Giron-Gatcia, 30, of Mattituck was charged with driving while intoxicated and resisting arrest on Tuesday at 12:19 a.m. after police had to use a taser to subdue him during a struggle with an officer, police said.

Police observed Gatcia driving along West Mill Road in Mattituck and not being able to maintain his lane, police said. The officer on the scene attempted to stop Gatcia but he sped up in an effort to flee and was followed to a residence on West Mill, where Gatcia jumped out of his vehicle and tried to get into his residence, police said. A struggle ensued and the officer struck Gatcia with a Taser and arrested him for aggravated DWI, resisting arrest, fleeing from police, and many other vehicle and traffic violations, police said.

Shannon Hofsiss, 25, of Peconic was charged with driving while intoxicated and aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle on Sept. 1 at 6:06 a.m. after police noticed her swerving on Route 48 in Peconic, police said. She was found to be intoxicated after failing roadside sobriety tests.

Wayne Duvall, 32, of Riverhead was charged with criminal trespass on Sept. 1 at 1:41 a.m. after police responded to a call from a business owner on Sound Avenue in Mattituck who had been the victim of a recent string of scrap copper thefts. The owner told police that an alarm had been triggered and police found two men fleeing the scene on foot, police said. One was apprehended and identified as Duvall, the other is still at large, police said.

Southampton

Rioting, Resisting Arrest

Michael N. Lacy, 20, of Southampton was involved in a disturbance at 230 Elm in Southampton in the predawn hours Saturday, according to Southampton Village Police. He was arrested at 3:50 a.m. and charged with two counts of disorderly conduct, a violation; riot in the second degree, resisting arrest, criminal mischief in the fourth degree and obstructing governmental administration in the second degree, all misdemeanors. He was held for arraignment.

East Hampton

A motorcyclist who was airlifted after crashing on Springs-Fireplace Road, near Abraham's Path, in East Hampton on Aug. 20, was speeding and was driving with a suspended license, according to East Hampton Town police.

Police said Diego Ordonez, 27, of East Hampton, was charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor, on Sunday morning after numerous attempts to contact him.

James W. Hancock Jr., 35, of Shoreham, was arrested on a charge of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor, on Aug. 24, nearly two weeks after he first took a jet ski fromUihlein's Marina and Boat Rental in Montauk, failed to return it, and caused damage to it, East Hampton Town police said.


Sean K. Bailey
, 25, of West Orange, NJ, was also charged with drunken driving after an accident in Amagansett on Sunday at about 3 a.m. An officer on foot patrol reportedly witnessed the accident, where a 1999 Mercedes-Benz traveling west on Main Street slowed to pull over into a parking spot and was rear-ended by a 2011 Mercedes-Benz, driven by Bailey. The officer said Bailey appeared intoxicated and was arrested. The driver of the other car, Syed Rida Shoh, a driver for a Wainscott-based limo service, was not injured. Justice Catherine A. Cahill released Bailey on his own recognizance.
