Crimes Nearby: Cops Say Man Used Fake Name, Held by Immigration

The following information was supplied by East End police departments. A criminal charge is only an accusation, and does not indicate convictions.

Recent arrests and reported crimes from elsewhere on the East End:

NORTH FORK

Southold Police arrested David Miller, 62, of Brooklyn on March 18 on the charge of misdemeanor driving while intoxicated. Police said they stopped Miller along South Street in Greenport for allegedly failing to use his traffic signal when they discovered he was intoxicated. Miller was held overnight and arraigned the next morning.

Suffolk County Police arrested Walter Brown, 28, of Bellport on March 20 on an active warrant from the Southold police for forcible touching, a misdemeanor. Brown was transferred to the Southold police station where he was held for arraignment.

EAST HAMPTON

Two young men have been arrested in connection with a string of burglaries in Springs and police said more charges could be coming.

Johnathon Duran, 22, of Springs, and an 18-year-old co-defendant, whose name police withheld due to his Youthful Offender status in court, were picked up on March 12, after evidence left behind at one of the burglaries led to the suspects, East Hampton Town Police Detective Lt. Chris Anderson said on Monday.

Anderson said all the burglaries had not been reported and that police are investigating further. "We're looking into other burglaries that have occurred in the area," he said. More charges could be added.

Cesar P. Calle, 41, of East Hampton, is being held on $10,000 bail out of, as well as a detainer from the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement, following a traffic stop on March 16. He was pulled over in a 2002 Ford on Woods Lane, after police received a hit on their license plate reader that the Ford's registration was suspended.

Calle, who gave a first name of Benito E, was not able to produce identification and a check with the DMV confirmed his driving privileges were suspended.

Once his criminal history returned, police discovered his real name was Cesar. He also had a bench warrant out on a Suffolk County Police Department case, as well as the detainer.

WESTHAMPTON-HAMPTON BAYS

Melvin Garcia-Arias, 44, of Speonk, was arrested March 18 at 6:19 p.m. in Westhampton at the intersection of Montauk Highway and Corwin Place. Garcia-Arias was charged with aggravated DWI, a misdemeanor, and unlicensed operation of a vehicle, a violation, after a traffic stop revealed that the man was intoxicated, police said.

SOUTHAMPTON

Andrew Thayer, 23, of Bridgehampton, was arrested in Sagaponack on March 18 and charged with making graffiti and possession of a graffiti instrument, both misdemeanors. Police said Thayer was spotted at 6:10 p.m. spray painting graffiti on a sign at. He was additionally charged with unlawful marijuana possession, a violation.
