Crimes Nearby: Drug Charges, Stolen Video Camera

The following information was supplied by various town police departments. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate guilt.

Miller Place-Rocky Point

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers and Seventh Precinct Crime section are offering a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest of an unknown man caught on camera stealing a video camera.

The man stole the camera from at 8 Broadway in Rocky Point on June 22 and is wanted for petty larceny. Anyone with information can anonymously call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.

Charles Killian, unknown age, of Mount Sinai was arrested Aug. 13 in Rocky Point and charged with obscene language and gestures. Reports indicate Killian was arrested for alleged misconduct on Route 25A, Miller Place.

North Fork 

Mariusz Pawelski, 28, of Mattituck was charged with driving while intoxicated on Sunday at 8:49 p.m. after police responded to the report of an erratic driver possibly involved in a motor vehicle accident on New Suffolk Road in Cutchogue, police said. Pawelski was stopped and he failed several roadside sobriety tests, police said.

Ronald Franklin, 50, of Islip Terrace was charged with driving while intoxicated on Aug. 17 at 9:08 p.m. after police stopped him for failing to maintain his lane on Route 48 in Southold, police said.

William Kelly, 71, of Southold was charged with aggravated DWI on Aug. 18 at 11:51 a.m. after police stopped him for driving a 1987 Mazda pickup truck onto the shoulder of Route 25 in Southold near Harbor Lane, police said.

Robert Aleksander, 55, of Cutchogue was charged with DWI and third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle on Saturday at 3:44 p.m. after police, who reported that the defendant was known to have a suspended license, observed him driving east on Sterling Road in Cutchogue, police said. He was found to be intoxicated after he was stopped and his vehicle was towed from the scene because of an expired registration and no insurance, police said.

Westhampton-Hampton Bays

A 26-year-old woman who was at the Sunday told police that at around 7 p.m. that day she was assaulted. The woman, who was highly intoxicated, had a cut about her right eye and swelling on her eye and forehead. She declined to give police her address, or any details about the attacker. Police told her that she could report the incident Monday and press charges.

Marc D’Aconta, 34, of Southampton was arrested Tuesday, August 16, at 1:30 a.m. on Montauk Highway in Hampton Bays and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor. D’Aconta crashed into three unoccupied parked cars along Main Street in Hampton Bays and was reportedly found to appear intoxicated.

East Hampton

have a man in custody in connection with a burglary investigation on Tuesday afternoon. 

Detective Lt. Chris Anderson said police arrested Roberto E. Swift, a 23-year-old currently homeless man, at the Amagansett railroad station at about 4:15 p.m.

Genaro Sandoval, 31, of East Hampton, was arrested on a felony driving while intoxicated charge after police said he was driving with a blood alcohol level of more than twice the legal limit and with a suspended license on Thursday. He is now being held at Suffolk County jail in Riverside on a detainer from the Bureau of Immigration and Enforcement Control.

Police said they found Sandoval after he tried to back unsafely into a driveway on Edwards Avenue, near Royal Street, in East Hampton at about 1 a.m. Sandoval had a previous DWI conviction within the past 10 years, police indicated on the report.
He was charged with aggravated DWI as a felony and first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. Lisa R. Rana also set bail at $5,000.

Rian J. White, 56, of Springs, was arrested on drunken driving and marijuana possession charges following an accident on Three Mile Harbor Road in Springs on Thursday. Police said a witness saw a 1992 Honda two-door car go off the road, near Washington Avenue, and strike a street sign at about 9 p.m. The witness provided a license plate number.

During a special enforcement detail, plain clothes officers arrested Scott R. Smith of East Hampton, on cocaine and marijuana charges in Amagansett on Aug. 9.

Southampton

on North Sea Mecox Road in Southampton Sunday evening and brandished a revolver at police officers. The weapon was later discovered to be a starter pistol, according to the commanding officer of the Southampton Town Police Emergency Services Unit.

Marc Castro, 27, of Dix Hills was arrested Sunday at 4:09 a.m. at the corner of Deerfield Road and Montauk Highway in Water Mill and charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony, and second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor. Southampton Town police said they stopped Castro for not using his blinker when they discovered that he had a container of Vicodin pills. Castro said he bought them for recreational use from a friend.
