Crimes Nearby: Woman Reportedly Choked With a Towel

The following information was supplied by East End police departments. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate a conviction.

Recent arrests and reported crimes from elsewhere on the East End:

NORTH FORK

Michael Massaro, 29, of Ronkonkoma, was charged with second-degree assault, driving while impaired by drugs, resisting arrest, unlawful possession of marijuana, and second-degree obstruction of governmental administration on Feb. 14 at 4:17 p.m., after a Southold Town Police officer stopped him for driving a 2006 Toyota with no front license plate and an expired inspection sticker on Sound Avenue in Mattituck, police said.

While conducting the interview at the stop, officer Daniel Mackey noticed an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and asked Massaro to exit the vehicle, but Massaro refused to do so and began to roll up the window and drive away, police said. Officer Mackey then reached into the vehicle to try and pull the key from the ignition, and his arm became caught in the window, causing minor injuries, police said.

Massaro was eventually removed from the car and resisted arrest but was subdued with the assistance of several officers, some of which were off-duty at the scene, police said. Massaro was arrested and transported to police headquarters where he was held pending arraignment.

Susan Langenfass, 47, of Cutchogue, was charged with driving while intoxicated on Feb. 9 at 2:26 a.m. after police stopped her for failing to maintain her lane while driving east on Route 25 in Cutchogue with a flat tire and other recent damage to her vehicle, police said. After investigation, Langenfass was found to be intoxicated, was arrested and transported to police headquarters where she was processed and held pending arraignment, police said.

Marco Amay, 19, of East Hampton, was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs, unlawful possession of marijuana, and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle on Feb. 11 at 1:48 a.m., after police stopped him for failing to maintain his lane on Route 25 in Cutchogue, police said. The officer smelled marijuana on Amay and found marijuana in the vehicle, police said. Amay was arrested and transported to police headquarters in Peconic where he was held pending arraignment.

EAST HAMPTON

Jorge G. Castillo, 29, was arrested two days after allegedly choking his girlfriend with a towel during an argument at his house on Newtown Lane in East Hampton Village, said.  

The woman was able to get away and filed charges on Feb. 6 after she retreated to a friend's house. Castillo was initially charged with second-degree harassment, a violation, but police said he would be additionally charged with criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation, a misdemeanor.

Lisa R. Rana arraigned Castillo and released him on $300 bail. An order of protection was issued for the victim and police logged that they checked his home and car for any knives that were not work related.

Pedro R. Santos, 22, of East Hampton, was arrested on a misdemeanor aggravated driving while intoxicated charge and driving without a license in East Hampton Village on Thursday night.

Police said Santos was driving a 1996 Ford Explorer erratically on Newtown Lane and North Main Street at about 11 p.m. When he failed to signal as he turned into the parking lot, police pulled him over.

In addition to DWI, he was also charged with felony first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and seven violations, including consumption of an alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle.

WESTHAMPTON-HAMPTON BAYS

Police charged Cosmo Narracci, 44, of Huntington, with DWAI by alcohol on Feb. 7. Police say Narracci was pulled over on Old Country Road in East Quogue after he was involved in a car accident.  Police also charged him with failure to use designated lane.

On Feb. 1, Southampton Police charged Brian Miller, 37 of Southampton, with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, alcohol related. Police say they pulled Miller over on South Country Road in Remsenburg for not having a rear license plate. Upon investigation, they found that Miller's license was revoked from a DWI charge he received on April 18, 2006. Miller was also charged for not having a license plate lamp.

On Feb. 8, police charged Gayle Valentine, 48, of East Quogue, with criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree. Police say Valentine was involved in a domestic dispute with her live-in boyfriend and allegedly hit him several times with an umbrella.  She was also charged with menacing and harassment.
