Details Emerge On Man Who Tied Up, Robbed Woman At Tanger, Stole Car

Suspect was wearing a mask, police said.

Details have begun to emerge about a robbery that took place at the Tanger Aldo store in Riverhead Wednesday during which a woman was tied up by a suspect who later stole her car.

Riverhead Police Lieutenant Richard Boden said the suspect was wearing a mask. The alleged robber, he added, was "dark-skinned," but his race is unknown; he is believed to be "somewhere in the vicinity of six feet tall."

The car, which belonged to the Aldo employee, has not yet been recovered, Boden said.

Police are not releasing the name of the victim due to safety concerns; Boden said, adding that the suspect was unknown to her.

Security at Tanger has been enhanced, Boden said, with Riverhead Police doing extra patrols and Tanger Outlet security officers aware, as well.

"It was definitely a strange time to be doing a robbery," Boden said, adding that the amount of money stolen was not "extravagant."

Boden said police are asking that anyone who saw anything suspicous contact them at 631-727-4500.

On Wednesday, a female Tanger employee was robbed by a man who forced his way into the store, tied her up, and stole her car, police said.

Riverhead Police said on Wednesday at 9:02 a.m., they responded to the Aldo shoe store, located at 1770 West Main Street, Suite 902, in the Riverhead Tanger Outlet Center.

According to police, the female victim, an employee at Aldo Shoes, reported that an unknown male forced his way into the business while she was opening the front door to the store. The man, police said, placed an unknown object to the back of the employee's head and forcibly removed an undisclosed amount of cash from the store.

The victim was then tied up, police said -- while the subject fled in her 2012 Hyundai Elantra, registration number FRR-4165.

On Thursday, Tanger management said they are working with police and safety of customers is paramount.
