DWI Task Force Nets 9 Arrests in Riverhead

Seven charged with driving while intoxicated.

Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota is keeping his promise to crack down on drunk drivers.

On Saturday night, nine arrests were made in Riverhead by the East End DWI task force, in an effort to tackle drunk driving.

Riverhead Town Police report that on Saturday night, seven were arrested and charged with DWI. Police also arrested one individual and charged him with driving while ability impaired and reported one arrest for unlawful possession of marijuana.

The seven charged with DWI include Juan Perez, 50, of Riverhead, Otto Zeller, 33, of Huntington, Amilcar Cano, 28, of Greenport, who was charged with DWI and resisting arrest, John Stark, 42, of Southold, Eusebio Plato, 38, of Riverhead, Farrow Sims, Jr., 19, of Calverton, and Mark Sims, 42, of Riverhead.

Riverhead Police also arrested Melissa McMoore, 21, of Greenport and charged her with unlawful possession of marijuana, as well as Jamesport resident Philip Ashley, 72, who was arrested and charged with driving while ability impaired.

The Suffolk County East End DWI Task Force effort will continue throughout the summer season; Saturday night's operation consisted of officers from Riverhead, Quogue and Westhampton Beach.
