Fire Department Battles Car Fire In Baiting Hollow

It was not immediately clear how the car fire began.

High winds made it difficult for the Riverhead Volunteer Fire Department to battle a car fire in Baiting Hollow Monday morning, according to eyewitnesses.

According to Riverhead Police, fire department personnel and police were on the scene of the car fire, located at the corner of Flag Hill Drive and Oakleigh Avenue; the fire broke out at around 10:30 a.m.

No one was home at the residence, a neighbor said; the pickup on fire was located adjacent to a newly built garage.
