Riverhead Firefighters Rescue Elderly Driver Dangling on Guy Wire

Firefighters have rescued the driver of a minivan that was suspended on the guy wire of a utility pole.

Apparently the driver, an unidentified woman, attempted to make a left turn at Route 58 onto Kroemer Avenue at about 7:45 a.m. but swerved off of the roadway and struck the cable, according to Riverhead Local

The woman was stuck in her vehicle which dangled from the pole for nearly an hour before emergency crews could rescue her, according to the Riverhead News-Review. Riverhead Fire Department Heavy Rescue enlisted a tow truck to keep the car stable while firefighters extracted the woman from the car with the help of a forklift.
