Flanders Man Arrested after Alleged Mugging

Police say the 48-year-old man kicked and punched another man walking along a dirt road in Riverside before stealing his phone and cash.

Southampton Town Police arrested a Flanders man Sunday after he reportedly robbed another man on a dirt road off County Road 104 in Riverside.

Police arrested Garland Massenburg, 48, at around 8:45 p.m. on Private Road, which leads off County Road 104. Police said that Massenburg had kicked and punched a man walking along the road many times before taking his cell phone and cash earlier in the evening. Police officers investigated, located Massenburg and arrested him after the victim identified him as the culprit, according to a police report.

Massenburg was charged with third-degree robbery, a felony. The age and hometown of the victim was not made available.

Massenburg was held overnight at Southampton Town Detention Facility and remanded to Suffolk County Jail in lieu of bail. The value of bail was not available.
