Homeless Woman Accused of Beating, Stealing From 84-Year Old Pleads Not Guilty

Julia Townsend indicted on three felony charges.

Julia Townsend, a 38-year old homeless woman who , pleaded not guilty to three felony charges at her arraignment on Friday at Suffolk County Criminal Court.

Townsend was indicted in front of State Supreme Court Justice C. Randall Hinrichs on one count of first degree burglary, one count of second degree robbery, and one count of second degree assault.

According to police reports, Townsend, "a female known" to Robert Desmond, assaulted the man at Glenwood Springs Mobile Home Park around 3:00 in the morning, leaving with $1,400 in cash and assorted jewelery. She reportedly "assaulted him to the point that he lost consciousness," and was apprehended by Riverhead police shortly after.

Riverhead Justice Court records show that on Jan. 3, Townsend was due to face 11 different counts stemming from nine separate incidents, dating all the way back to April of 2009. Incidents run the gamut from riding a bicycle on a sidewalk to driving without a seat belt to fourth degree grand larceny.

Police records show that Townsend was "undomiciled," or homeless, at the time of her last arrest. Justice records note Townsend's last known address in Ridge.

Judge Hinrichs set bail at $100,000 cash or $200,000 bond.
