Homeless Woman Reportedly Beats, Steals From 84-Year Old Man

A homeless woman reportedly beat and stole over $1,000 in cash, plus assorted jewelery, from an 84-year old resident of Glenwood Springs Mobile Home Park after breaking into his home.

She is currently being held for a Monday morning arraignment on felony burglary charges while the man remains at Peconic Bay Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, said Det. Patrick Waski of the Riverhead Police Department. Waski added that he believed the incident occurred around 3 a.m. on Saturday morning.

According to police reports, Julia Townsend, 38, forcibly entered the man's residence and "assaulted him to the point that he lost consciousness." When the man, who lives alone, awoke hours later he allegedly noticed a large amount of money missing along with jewelery.

Reports state that Townshend was "a female known to" the man. According to Waski, the two, "met through a mutual friend a while back."

According to reports, after the man awoke from unconsciousness and called police, Townshend was located by Riverhead police and arrested on first degree burglary charges. Waski said the felony charge includes assault.
