Incident Reports: Scammer Said Man Is Wanted on Drug Warrant

Also reported to Southampton Town police, a meat clever attack in Flanders.

Crimes and suspicious incidents recently reported to the Southampton Town Police Department in the Flanders and Riverside area:

Attempted Grand Larceny

• A Flanders man called police immediately June 24 after he received a phone call from a person trying to scam him out of $4,000. The man told police that the call came to his house phone, and the caller said he was a special agent calling to inform him that there is an arrest warrant out for him regarding smuggling drugs into the Dominican Republican in 2007. The caller said the man could vacate the warrant if he paid the $4,000, according to the incident report.

Burglary

• A Flanders man told police June 28 that sometime since June 21 someone broke into the basement of an unoccupied house that he has had on the market for sale for a year and a half. He said he discovered that copper piping that had been attached to the water heating unit was removed.

Menacing, Criminal Mischief

• A Riverhead man told police that on June 30 at 7:35 p.m. a man came at him with a meat cleaver on Albany Avenue in Flanders. The victim drove away, but the assailant threw the meat clever and hit the driver's side door of the victim's vehicle, according to the incident report.
