UPDATE: Long Island Man Killed during 18th Street Robbery

A crook pushed the 67-year-old victim to the ground, where he cracked his head and died on Wednesday night.

UPDATE, Jan. 10, 8 p.m.: Police released a photo of Jesus Morales' wedding ring, who was killed on Jan. 9 on 18th Street during a botched robbery. Police believe that the suspect, who is still at large, may try to sell the ring. The NYPD is asking the public to keep their eyes out for anyone trying to sell this wedding ring, for they may be connected with the murder-robbery.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at 1800 577-TIPS.

A robber killed a 67-year-old man on 18th Street and robbed him for his watch and wallet on Wednesday, Jan. 9, police said.

According to a spokesman for the NYPD, a crook approached a man visiting from Long Island at around 7:15 p.m. on 18th Street, between Fifth and Sixth avenues, pushed him to the ground, causing him to crack his head on the sidewalk, robbed him and fled.

Police responded to the robbery, within the confines of the 72nd Precinct, where they found the 67-year-old victim lying on the sidewalk with head injuries. The EMS transported the victim to Lutheran Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

According to police sources, the victim’s name was Jesus Morales from Merrick, Long Island and was in South Slope to buy a car on 18th Street. The robber allegedly pushed him to the ground once, where he cracked his head open, robbed him and ran away.

There have been no arrests as of yet and the investigation is ongoing. Stay with Patch for updates on this story.

If you go back and take note of the horrific murders it's the assault weapons they go for to commit mass murders. Not even real hunters feel a need for them. It's ONE thing together with other steps (better mental health care). I am not saying take hand guns off the street........but really carrying them around with you..........again what do you want a return of the WILD WEST?

Agreed about the assault weapons i am all for removing them from being sold. I am just saying you really think the criminal element these days are going to lay them down just because we ban them? And i am all for better mental health care but i am too realistic and just want to be able to protect myself if the occasion arises

It's the first step not the only step - let's ban them - to "maybe" stop future purchases of assault weapons. Another step is putting policemen in schools (they are already in some schools) not armed security personnel. That friendly school policeman would offer a sense of safety, the kids would not be afraid of him; and, if the occasion arises - he's armed and ready. I get what you're saying and if you personally want a hand gun, can pass a background check and a mental health physical then go for it. It is your right - not trying to take that away just adjusted for the good of the world.

Just awful. Expect four more years of this as we get more and more unemployment and more and more taxes. Thank goodness though Bloomberg and Obama are protected by guns while we're left to "defend" ourselves from the criminals.

Parksloper - you are so wrong in your comments above. But, unfortunately, I don't think you will ever understand the truth.
