A 42-year-old man was arrested May 22 on a weapon charge after New London Police were tipped off by New York State Police that a wanted man armed with a gun was on a ferry heading into the harbor.
According to police, the man was wanted in connection to an incident earlier that day in South Hampton, NY. The man, Shawn Douglas, reportedly threatened to kill an individual in New York, advised relatives that he was headed to Massachusetts to kill a family member, and then fled the scene.
New London Police said they were informed that Douglas was possibly carrying a Mac-10 firearm and that he had boarded the Cross Sound Ferry (Susan Anne) in Orient Point, NY, and was en route to New London.
When the ferry arrived shortly after 4 p.m., New London police officers took Douglas into custody without incident. He was found to be in possession of a loaded firearm, police said.
Douglas was charged with carrying a pistol without a permit, breach of peace, and possession of marijuana.
New London Police said Douglas will likely face additional charges in New York.
