UPDATE: Police Release Name of Man Who Died in Fire

Sixty three-year-old man succumbs after being transported to Stony Brook University Medical Center.

Update: Police released the name of the man who died in the fire, Heinz Horatschek, 63. The fire remains under investigation.

A 63-year-old man died in a fire that engulfed a mobile home Friday night.

According to Riverhead police - who are withholding the man's name pending notification of next of kin - the call came in around 11:40 p.m. The fire occurred inside the R and R Mobile Home Park, located at 235 Old Country Rd.

Police said the victim was located in his bedroom by two other occupants of the mobile home and was subsequently transported by Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps to an awaiting Suffolk County Police helicopter, and brought to Stony Brook University Medical Center.

Members of the Riverhead Fire Department contained the fire to the victims' bedding.

According to a Riverhead News-Review report, another occupant of the mobile home said the deceased man was blind, and liked to smoke a pipe in his bed, which he lit with matches.

Suffolk County Arson Squad was called to assist in the investigation, which is pending.
