Mother, Son Killed in Manorville Crash, 2 Children Seriously Injured

The driver was blindsided by a van at the intersection of County Road 111 and Oceanview Boulevard. The two surviving children remain in critical condition.

A mother and her 7-year-old son were killed and two children critically injured in a two-car accident in Manorville Saturday morning, according to Suffolk County police.

Keri Trinca, 30, of Manorville was driving a Honda sedan at about 8:25 a.m. with her three children on Oceanview Boulevard when her vehicle was broadsided by a van at the intersection of Oceanview and County Road 111, according to Suffolk County police.

Trinca was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Her 7-year-old son, Jason, was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries. Trinca's 4-year-old daughter, Maria, and 2-year-old son Christopher were seriously injured in the crash and airlifted to Stony Brook University Medical Hospital, where they remain in critical condition.

The van's driver, Steven Vonfricken, 51, of St. James, and his passenger Edward James, 50, of Smithtown, were taken to  and treated for non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

Jason Trinca was a regular go-kart racer at , according to reports from PitstopPitbull.com. He most recently won the July 10th race, according to the site.

Police said the investigation into the crash is still ongoing. Both vehicles have been impounded for a safety check and no charges have been filed yet.
