New DWI Task Force Nets 7 Arrests in Riverhead

28 summonses also issued, police say.

A new DWI task force created to target offenders driving while drinking and drugging on the East End netted seven arrests and 28 summonses on Saturday night, police say.

The arrests took place only in Riverhead Town; the task force also set out to nab DWI additional offenders across the East End.

The task force, with officers from Riverhead, Southold and Shelter Island, as well as state and county police, made four driving while intoxicated arrests, one driving while ability impaired arrest, one arrested for driving with a suspended license, and one arrest for unlawful possession of marijuana.

Additional charges related to the DWI arrests included one charge of unlawful possession of marijuana and one charge of criminal possession of a controlled subtance in the fifth degree.

Charged with allegedly driving while intoxicated were James Liggan, 51, of Lake Ronkonkoma, Cleveland Griffin, 44, of Riverhead, Andre Walkr, 21, of Riverhead, and Brendan Jordan, 30, of Mattituck. Alanna McGovern, 21, of Babylon was charged with allegedly driving while ability impaired.
