Cops: Stolen, Pawned Class Ring Leads To Arrest

A Riverside man was arrested and charged with stealing the Riverhead High School ring.

A Riverside man was arrested and charged with stealing and pawning a Riverhead High School class ring.

Southampton Town Police detectives arrested Joe L. McKay, 65, of Riverside on Vail Avenue on Saturday. McKay was taken to Southampton Town Police headquarters and charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree, a misdemeanor, after an investigation into McKay allegedly possessing a stolen Riverhead High School class ring.

Police said McKay pawned the ring at a local are secondhand merchandise vendor on a previous date. The proceeds were not recovered but police said the markings on the ring are distinctive, saying "2008 Chris ROTC 33."

McKay was processed and released on an appearance ticket with a date to return at a later time to Southampton Town Justice Court.
