Pedestrian Killed in Car Accident on East Main Street

A 62-year-old man was hit by an eastbound vehicle on Monday evening near Town Hall

A Riverhead man was struck by a car and killed on East Main Street near Town Hall Monday night, according to a statement from Riverhead police.

John Fetkovich, 62, was hit by a 2004 Volvo going eastbound on Main Street around 7:34 p.m., police said. Fetkovich sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a police report of the incident.

Sgt. Joseph Loggia of the Riverhead Police Department said the driver of the car, David Winkler, 64, of Cutchogue, stopped after hitting the victim and was questioned by police at the scene, but no charges were filed against Winkler at the time of publication.

Loggia said police are still investigating the incident. Anyone that witnessed the accident is asked to call Riverhead Police at 631-727-4500.
