Pedestrian Struck By A Car on West Main Street

Injuries not life-threatening, police say.

A 60-year-old Riverhead man was hit by a car as he walked on West Main Street on Tuesday night.

According to Riverhead Town Police, a call was received on Tuesday at approximately 8:50 p.m. involving a motor vehicle accident in the area of 629 West Main Street.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers found that a 60-year-old man had been struck by a 2002 Nissan Maxima that was heading westbound on West Main Street.

Members of the Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corp. treated the injured pedestrian, who was then airlifted to Stony Brook University Medical Center by a Suffolk County Police aviation unit for non-life-threatening injuries.

An investigation was conducted at the scene and police say the driver of the vehicle, Michael Kavon, 43, of Brooklyn, was not charged. The name of the injured pedestrian was not immediately released by police.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check.
