Police Charge Man in Monday's Osborn Avenue Robbery

A BB pistol was found at the scene, police said.

Police have arrested a man and charged him after an attempted robbery at a Riverhead business Monday night, authorities said.

According to Riverhead Town police, on Monday at 8:45 p.m., police responded to  International Connection on Osborn Avenue in Riverhead, where a robbery in progress had been reported.

Upon arrival, police said they found three employees holding down the suspect. After an investigation, police said Nicholas Savino, 33, of Riverhead had allegedly entered the business with what appeared to be a handgun, demanding money. The three employees were able to subdue Savino and hold him until police arrived.

The weapon recovered at the scene was a BB pistol, police said.

Savino was arrested and charged with two counts of robbery in the second degree.

Both Savino and and one male employee were taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment of injuries received during the robbery.

Upon Savino's release from the hospital, he was processed and held at the Riverhead Police Department pending arraignment.
