Riverhead police said that on 12:19 a.m. Friday night, officers responded to a call at an apartment on Doctors Path in Riverhead, in reference to a burglary that had just taken place.

According to police, the victim, a 22-year-old female, reported that just before midnight on Friday night, she heard a knock at the door. When she answered, two masked men forced their way into the apartment, police said.

The victim told police that one subject had a handgun and the other had a knife; the suspects allegedly demanded money and ransacked the apartment. The suspects were described as two black males wearing masks who made off with cash and clothing.

Police said the victim was able to escape and call the police. When police arrived, the suspects had already fled. A K-9 seach was conducted and a track was found that led police to believe that the suspects got into a waiting vehicle.

Police said at the time they believed the incident was related to illegal drug activity.
